Abstract |
This article presents a layout method for LC oscillator with high linear frequency control. As eliminating some parasitic inductance for routing between capacitors, proposed method increases the linearity of frequency and capacitor steps by using aluminum pad metal. Since very wide metals with zero inductance are parallel connected to parasitic inductors, effective inductance are decreased and finally it can be neglected. The method is useful for wide band DCO/VCO which has large capacitor bank and long routing lines. In a DCO with a large capacitor bank of 12.6 pF, high linear frequency step is verified by using the layout method with high performance of DCO in 2.5 GHz. The DCO has the wide tuning range of 48 % and low phase noise of -157 dBc/Hz @ 45 MHz in 1980 MHz with 4.9-mW power consumption in SS-corner with 85?C. |
