Abstract In case of airborne SAR, autofocus(AF) algorithm is necessary to solve the performance degradation problem due to motion measurement errors. If the swath width is wide and motion measurement error is big, the characteristics of spatially variant phase error occur clearly, so a new method should be considered to handle this situation. In this paper, the autofocus method based on partitioned SAR image is proposed to compensate spatially variant phase errors effectively. The cross correlation of the overlapped sub-image is performed to estimate the azimuth shift offset for solving the image mismatching problem between the partitioned images. The proposed method is verified to use SAR raw data acquired in real flight test.
