Abstract Millimeter-wave communications have attracted large interest recently since the huge bandwidth prepare for rapidly increasing data usage and create new application services. The necessity of enhanced mobile broadband system has appeared based on the new radio standards for 5G. The characteristics of the millimeter-wave channel cause a larger path loss than the lower frequency band. To overcome large path losses, large-scale antenna arrays for highly directional beamforming is essential. The study presents a millimeter-wave-based multi-user multiple-input multiple-output system and proposes analog and digital hybrid precoding. Hybrid precoding comprises analog precoding to reduce implementation complexity and digital precoding to remove interference signals between the users. Digital precoding is simply applied to linear zero-forcing precoding, nonlinear tomlinson-harashima precoding for higher performance, and precoding with power allocation to maximize overall spectral efficiency. Results obtained from simulations performed in this study demonstrate that compared to the conventional method, use of the proposed method leads to attainment of higher spectral efficiency.
