Abstract The full duplex (FD) communication has been practicable thanks to the self interference cancellation (SIC) technique. As the FD communication becomes possible in the physical layer, studies on MAC protocol supporting FD communication have been conducted. In order to analyze the performance of the full-duplex MAC protocol, the SIC, the probability of MCS level, and the FD pair probability should be considered. However, in most studies, there is not considered in an appropriate way. Therefore, we analyze the performance of FD MAC protocol in WLAN system with variable MCS level. At first, we analyze the probability of MCS level and the FD pair probability according to SIC. We then analyze the throughput performance. The analysis results show that, the higher SIC, the higher FD pair probability. Also, it leads to improve the throughput performance. In addition, the most FD communications transmit data at low MCS level.
