Abstract |
Occasionally, fishermen throw away or lose used fishing gears during fishing. The abandoned fishing gears are devastating the marine environment and causing various problems such as lowing catches and marine accidents. In order to solve these problems, this paper develops an underwater ultrasonic communication system to monitor the electronic fishing gears including the acoustic tags. It is essential to secure survival time by minimizing the power consumption of the acoustic tag attached to the fishing gear. In this reason, the proposed system solves the problems by applying the efficient acoustic modulation and demodulation techniques. The acoustic tag with the underwater communication technique proposed has a reduction of power consumption of 34.4% compared with commercial products. In addition, the system implemented has identification probability of 98.6% in experiment for underwater communication with multiple acoustic tags in Jeju island in Korea. |
