Abstract In this paper, we propose an ant colony optimization-based routing protocol, called ACORP, that can support the route establishment and data transmission efficiently in mobile ad-hoc wireless networks. The main feature and contribution of the proposed routing protocol are as follow. First, the proposed routing protocol supports the stable route establishment and data transmission by efficiently using various parameters compared to that of conventional routing protocols that utilize one parameter to establish routes. Second, the proposed routing protocol can supports the user required QoS service and the limited resource efficiently by establishing the route based on the ant colony optimization that uses various parameters. The results of performance evaluation of the proposed routing protocol using OPNET show that the ACORP outperforms in terms of PDR, Contorl Overhead, Delay, and Lifetime.
