Abstract This paper is about minimizing the noise generated by the automatic contrast enhancement using reversible data hiding. In the case of ACERDH (Automatic Contrast Enhancement using Reversible Data Hiding), a representative image enhancement algorithm based on reversible data hiding, noise occurs due to over-embedding into specific pixels in over- and under-exposed images with extreme brightness distribution. In order to solve it, a novel automatic contrast enhancement based on reversible data hiding is proposed. The proposed method minimizes the noise by controlling the pixels that are expected to generate noise by applying the peak selection threshold to the highest peak. Also, by selecting lowest peak using the sum of pixels between neighbors, the embedding capacity is increased efficiently by minimizing the size of the location map.
