Abstract It was analyzed that the transient ground potential rise of grounding electrode for the solar power generation system using the standard lightning current waveform. The electromagnetic theory was used to get a grounding impedance of ground electrode. And the moment of method(MoM) was applied to calculate the solution of Pocklington’s equation. The modified image method was also applied to consider the influence of image source in soil. Results between the simulation and the test was compared to check the reliability of the program. The horizontal ground electrode was used and the transient potential rise of ground electrode was analyzed with three types of lightning current waveform. In the result, the transient potential rise in case of being injected in the middle point of ground electrode is lower than it in the end point. The potential rise of horizontal ground electrode by 10/350 ㎲ lightning current waveform relatively has less relationship with the resistivity of soil. And as the length of the ground electrode increases, the transient potential deceases proportionally. But in case of the resistivity 1000 Ω·m the transient potential rise was not highly dependent on the resistivity. This results can be applied to design the grounding of the solar power generation system to decrease a transient ground potential rise.
