Abstract |
Binary addition is the most useful and important task throughout arithmetic calculations. Not only it is used in most electronic devices, but also lots of studies about adders were being done steadily. The approximate calculation is the way that enhancing power efficiency instead of discarding some accuracy in case that does not need high accuracy. Among the approximate calculations, the study on adders is the most active, and in this paper, we intend to compare and analyze various error-tolerant adders (ETA) using power consumption and various error metrics as well as trade-off of calculation accuracy and calculation speed. Basically, ETA is separated into an ordinary adder and an approximate adder. And depending on each ETA, there are some connection differences between the ordinary adder and the approximate adder. This paper introduces a basic operation principle of ETA and a few different models and comparisons of them. Also verifies with HDL simulation. |
