Abstract Recently, 5G has begun to be commercialized. However, of the three applications required by 5G, only eMBB (enhanced mobile broad band) has been commercialized. One of the applications of 5G, mMTC (massive machine type communication), is paying attention to the ambient backscatter communication system. An ambient backscatter communication system is a communication system that recycles ambient RF signals. However, since the ambient RF signal is reused, there is a problem in that it is difficult to combine with conventional technologies and is vulnerable to interference. In this paper, link budget analysis was performed to investigate the effect of interference on the communication distance of ambient backscatter. In addition, for the validity of the link budget analysis, a link budget experiment was performed by configuring backscatter communication in an actual interference environment. As a result, it was experimentally proven that the link budget method for the ambient backscatter communication system proposed in this paper is valid.
