Abstract Long range (LoRa) is one of the low power wide area (LPWA) techniques for Internet of things (IoT) communication, and has recently continued to expand its application fields. Due to the nature of IoT systems in which low-cost devices are usually used, LoRa receivers could experience a sampling frequency offset (SFO) caused by the mismatch in sampling frequencies between transmitter and receiver. In this paper, we will propose a two-step SFO compensation scheme for LoRa receiver. Using LoRa preamble, it finds the sign of SFO first; then, through the payload, it determines the instants at which sampling clock location should be moved, by comparing signal energies at the signal sample point and 1/2 chip-away points. Through computer simulations, we will analyze the effect of SFO on the LoRa signal detection, and show the performance gain of the proposed scheme.
