Abstract This paper is a study to improve the performance of an electric heater system using a PTC element used for heating and air conditioning in electric vehicles. The shortcomings in the overheating and high frequency characteristics of the existing IGBT control method were supplemented by MOSFET control, designed and evaluated. In addition, a sensor circuit and ESD protection circuit were configured for PTC heater control, and a furnace design was applied to improve EMC. Through this design, it was shown that it is possible to implement an air heating type heater with a relatively low capacity compared to the case of using IGBT.
