Abstract In this paper, we propose a signal-level Alamouti scheme for multiple-input multiple-output filter-bank multicarrier-quadrature amplitude modulation (MIMO FBMC-QAM) system. Based on the transmitted and received signals model of the MIMO FBMC-QAM system, we examine the problem when directly adopting the conventional Alamouti scheme to the MIMO FBMC-QAM system. Moreover, utilizing the signal-level effective channels, we design a new combiner for the signal-level Alamouti scheme. In simulation results, we verify that the proposed signal-level Alamouti scheme can obtain better bit error rate performance than the conventional Alamouti scheme by utilizing the oversampling characteristic of the FBMC systems.
