Abstract A high-frequency (HF) channel is poor in terms of communications but is widely used in international broadcasting because it can perform long-distance communication with a simple circuit and low power. Recently, as the data capacity transmitted through the HF channel increases, research on efficient transceivers has been conducted. Especially, many studies have been conducted on blind equalization that does not use a training sequence to increase frequency efficiency. However, since performance analysis results for blind equalization are insufficient in the HF channel, it is challenging to consider a blind equalization algorithm suitable for the HF channel. This paper implements various HF channels modeled in ITU-R F.1487 to implement blind equalization algorithms based on kurtosis, higher-order-statistics (HOS), support vector regression (SVR), and CMA. Our analysis shows that the kurtosis, HOS-based equalization algorithm, and CMA do not equalize the HF channel because the algorithm's convergence rate is slower than the channel change, but the SVR-based equalization algorithm successfully equalizes the channel because it is a batch algorithm, not an adaptive algorithm.
