Abstract An automatic 8-style weaving device equipped with an argon welding torch and its control unit was developed. Welding torch consists of automatic wire feed, 8-style weaving device, conventional torch and control switch. A control system using an Arduino board can control initial setup, wire feed, 8-style weaving and start/stop welding. The fixtures, wire feeders, and control systems for the 8-style weaving device were also designed and developed. In this system, the welding wire supply speed and figure 8 weaving speed could be varied at 10∼20mm/s and 5∼20rpm, respectively. In addition, welding control was performed in two stages : arc generation(welding start) and arc termination(welding stop), and the weld bead shape and weld joint defects had a performance of ±5% or less.
