Abstract Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It originates from the decay of uranium, which is present in small quantities in all rocks and soils. It is colorless, odorless and tasteless and can only be measured using special equipment. Because it is a gas, radon can move freely through the soil enabling it to enter the atmosphere. When radon surfaces in the open air, it is quickly diluted to harmless concentrations, but when it enters an enclosed space, such as a house, it can sometimes accumulate to unacceptably high concentrations. So, measurements of indoor radon are very important for escaping from radon risks. This paper researches a method of increasing sensitivity to implement a radon counter using a PIN photodiode sensor and improve the precision of radon measurement. To this end, a small fan is used to increase the flow amount of air including radon alpha particles, or a high voltage is applied around the radon sensor to attract alpha particles and hit the radon sensor a lot, thereby increasing the radon count. In addition, through experiments, this study is intended to show that it is very useful in improving the measurement accuracy of radon concentration.
