Abstract In this paper, we propose the variable gain amplifier with current compensation circuit to reduce the phase error between input signal and output signal. The proposed current compensation circuit makes linear output current regardless of the gain control voltage by compensating the current in the nonlinear phase. The variable gain amplifier is designed in a symmetric structure to reduce the phase error caused by the variation of parasitic capacitance that occurs when the voltage gain is continuously adjusted. The proposed VGA is implemented in 65 nm CMOS technology and exhibits a maximum RMS phase error of 1.36 degree, a gain control range of 14 dB, and a maximum gain error of 0.19 dB with 3-dB bandwidth of 17.2 GHz~24.1 GHz.
