Abstract In the BIPV system, which is the core of a zero-energy building, the PV module is integrated with the building. Since it is vulnerable to power degradation and failure caused by the structure and surrounding environment of the building, it is necessary to prevent the spread of accidents in advance through rapid failure diagnosis. In this paper, the state of the PV module was analyzed using simulation for the continuous operation and safety of the BIPV system. The virtual PV module was simulated to approximate the actual PV module, and the validity of the simulation was verified through the analysis of IV curves and FF factors. Bypass diode failures are the most dangerous and frequent PV module failures, and shading causes a decrease in the power of the PV module. In this paper, the characteristics of bypass diodes and shading were analyzed, and the status of PV modules was diagnosed through IV curves and FF factors.
