Abstract Metamaterials can have properties that ordinary materials cannot have, such as negative refractive index. The concept of metamaterials originated in the electromagnetic domain, but can also be applied to acoustic or mechanical elastic waves in the aspect of waves. On the other hand, well-developed principles and laws of electronic circuits can be used in mechanical systems by applying analogies between electronic circuits and mechanical systems. The analogies can also be used in the development of mechanical metamaterials. In this study, the mechanical elastic CRLH(Composite Right Left Handed) metamaterial was designed by imitating the electromagnetic CRLH metamaterial, which is highly utilized among electromagnetic metamaterials, and verified its properties by numerical simulation.
