Abstract In modern electronic warfare, signal detection is growing as a key to gain information advantage and disrupting enemy electronic systems. Electronic warfare support is crucial in detecting, tracking, and identifying enemy electronic signals to aid in electronic attack and protection. However, signal detection is becoming more challenging due to complicated signals and various center frequencies. This paper describes a basic detection algorithm suggests applying Bartlett and Welch smoothing techniques to FFT spectrum detectors based on the Neyman-Pearson detection theory to more clearly detect signals even in noisy environments. Through simulations, we observed reduced noise power when smoothing is applied to the FFT spectrum and confirmed improved signal detection performance. We also conducted simulations with different smoothing parameters to analyze the relationship between signal bandwidth and FFT spectrum frequency resolution.
