Abstract Due to the rapid growth of data these days, effectively managing storage space has become important. Deduplication file system removes duplicated parts of data to use storage space efficiently. VDO (Virtual Data Optimizer) is a deduplication file system used in Linux environments, enhancing storage efficiency through real-time deduplication. However, the deduplication process causes CPU overhead, which can negatively impact system performance. This paper analyzes the CPU overhead generated during VDO’s deduplication process and explores ways to minimize it. To achieve this, the paper identifies the sources of the performance overhead incurred in the deduplication process and analyzes VDO's performance under various data conditions.
