Abstract 3D AR HUD is a vehicle-mounted device that displays 3D objects above the actual driving environment. For the safe commercialisation of AR HUD, international standards are being developed by SAE, IEC and ISO to evaluate the optical performance of the HUD. The ghost image refers to an AR object that appears near to the AR object. It is caused by two different optical paths due to the thickness of the windshield. In the SAE, ISO standards, a physical board is placed in place of the virtual plane to measure a ghost image. In this paper, we propose a ghost image measurement method without a physical board. This paper proposes a method for measuring the ghost image. A camera is installed in the eye box, which corresponds to the viewer's eye position, to capture test images projected onto the virtual plane. We propose a model that measures the displacement between the original image and the ghost image, and measure it at the level of the ghost image.
