Abstract This study examines the efficacy and ethical implications of AI-based anti-cheating systems, which are increasingly being implemented in educational and evaluation settings, and proposes developmental alternatives. As online testing and evaluation become more prevalent due to the emergence of generative AI and the establishment of computer-based testing (CBT) systems, research and development of monitoring systems to prevent academic dishonesty have gained significant importance. This paper analyzes the technical mechanisms of the Log-Based Anti-Proctoring System (L-BAPS), which integrates AI technology to track examinees' digital activities in real-time. Furthermore, it critically reviews the ethical side effects of such technological interventions?including the infringement of student privacy, psychological intimidation caused by constant surveillance, and the undermining of fairness due to algorithmic bias?against international AI ethics standards such as the IEEE 7000 series. Consequently, this research suggests the necessity of establishing ethical guidelines where technology and human trust can coexist and shifting the evaluation paradigm beyond a purely surveillance- oriented approach focused on ex-post detection.
