Abstract |
Self-healing of concrete has received considerable attention because it could provide a solution to reduce the life cycle cost of concrete structures and to mitigate environment problems. Several studies have found that fiber and fly ash are beneficial to self-healing of concrete, and the present study evaluated the self-healing effect of two fibers, PE and PVA, by a three-point bending test with a notch. Four different crack inducement days were applied: 7, 28, 49, and 91 days, and the same 21 day healing period was applied. In addition, one case healed in 20 °C water and another case healed in air in a curing room with a temperature 20 °C and a humidity of 60 % were considered. The flexural strength and the initial flexural stiffness before and after healing were compared. From the results, both the strength healing effect and the stiffness healing effect decreased with delay of crack inducement, and specimens with the water healing condition showed a greater healing effect than those with the air healing condition. PVA fiber shower a relatively high healing effect than PE fiber.
