Abstract |
As autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) blocks are bonded with thin-bed mortar to form an ALC structure, the bond strength of ALC prisms is important. In this study, the direct shear bond strength between ALC and thin-bed mortar was experimentally evaluated. As the major test variables, compressive strength of ALC block, clamping stress between ALC blocks, and use of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and embedded dowel bars were considered. The test results showed that the shear bond strength increased when the compressive strength of the ALC block was low and that of the thin-bed mortar was high. The clamping stress between the ALC blocks increased the shear bond strength and the residual stress after the peak load. The GFRP attached at the wall surface also increased the residual stress. The dowel bar between ALC blocks was most effective to increase shear bond between ALC and thin-bed mortar.
