Abstract |
Numerical simulation was performed to analyze the damage of two adjacent concrete rooms due to internal explosion. TNT was used as the explosive for an internal explosion, and a structure of reduced size of one Korean apartment room constructed with reinforced concrete was used as target room for this research. The internal explosion experiment using 2 kg TNT was performed in one room to obtain results to verify and calibrate the numerical model. The numerical model was constructed to simulate internal explosions in consideration of afterburning and failure conditions of reinforced concrete. Using the constructed numerical model, numerical simulations of explosions of 8 kg, 11 kg, and 14 kg of TNT in one of two adjacent concrete rooms were performed to analyze the damage of rooms; it was found that, in addition to the pressure, the impact of the fractured wall mass affected the damage of the wall of the adjacent room.
