Abstract The acute toxicity and bioconcentration of heavymetals, Hg(HgCL₂), Pb(Pb(NO₃)₂), Cd(CdCl₂) and Cr(CrO₃) on a freshwater fish, Apiochilus latipes were investigated in a laboratory. The results were as follows: 1. The 24hr-LC_(50) values were 0.345㎎/ℓ for Hg, 3.4㎎/ℓ for Pb, 0.317㎎/ℓ for Cd and 3.8㎎/ℓ for Cr. 2. The combined effect of heavy metals was also investigated for Hg(031 $quot;/. )+pb(3.2㎎/ℓ )and Cd(0.3 ㎎/ℓ )+Cr(3.8㎎/ℓ ). No synergistic and antagonistic accumulation of those metals occured in the fish body for 24 hour exposure times. 3. When Apiochilus latipes was exposed to 1/5 and 1/10 of 24hr-LC_(50) concentrations of Hg(0.0690㎎/ℓ, 0.0345㎎/ℓ ), Pb(0.68㎎/ℓ, 0.34㎎/ℓ ), Cd(0.064㎎/ℓ, 0.032㎎/ℓ ) and Cr(0.75㎎/ℓ, 0.38㎎/ℓ ), their BCF(Bioconcentration factor) obtained were 117.90 and 49.30 for Hg 71.41 and 23.29 for Pb, 20.62 and 25.93 for Cd and 10.63 for Cr. The highest BCF appeared in Hg 4. Based upon the exposure time and concentration the following linearity between logarithum of BCF and logarithum of pollutant concentration(P)Xexposure time(T) was obtained: Hg; log BCF=1.63 log P.T+2.35(r²=0.688) Pb; log BCF=0.967 log P.T+1.12(r²=0.889) Cd;log BCF=0.681 log P.T+1.62(r²=0.805) Cr; log BCF=0.984 log P.T+0.33(r²=0.726) Where, P: Pollutant concontration (㎎/ℓ ) T: Exposure time (day)
