An Eddy Diffusion Model for Thermal Stratification in Lakes |
Abstract |
A one-dimensional eddy diffusion model is developed and applied to simulate the vertical temperature profiles in lakes. Eddy diffusivity which does not need lake-specific fitting parameter is applied. The heat exchanges at the water surface and the bottom are formulated by the energy balance and zero energy gradient. Application of this model which uses explicit finite difference method demonstrates that the model efficiently simulates water temperatures. |
