Abstract |
Many a small lake gets polluted mainly due to poor design and management which are characterized by long retention time and short circulating. The lake studied is a typical of its kind and shows severe eutrophications, especially in summer. A series of measurement was conducted to numerically evaluate the water quality of the lake. The measurement results indicated that water quality of the lake is similar to that of the effluent from the adjacent treatment plant. As an improvement plan, aeration using water jet was recommended because a number of water jet are under operation just for beauty and a little modification to them are also estimated to increase aeration enough to improve the lake`s water quality. An experiment result with aeration showed that pollutants such as T-N, T-P, COD were successfully removed by the aeration of 5 days. In addition, a sand filter of 1700㎥/day was installed and the entry point to the lake was modified by extending inlet pipes to be far away from the outlet. The former is to remove turbidity while the latter to circulate water. |
