Abstract The objective of this research is to compare the differences of microbial phases on different biofilm media for synthetic organic wastewater. The research on microbial structures and activities in biofilm media is very important in determining the characteristics and materials of the media depending on the appearance of micro-population. In this research, the microbial population and morphology were evaluated on different media through various techniques. According to our bench-scale test results, regardless of media types, the protozoa first settled down on media with organics, and then the bacteria were settled.
