| Abstract |
Activated carbon was prepared from kraft lignin using zinc chloride as an activation agent. The effect of operating variables such as activation temperature, activation time and mass ratio of activation agent added to char on the pore structure, I_2-adsorptivity and specific surface area of the activated carbon was investigated. Activated carbon with high surface area and high adsorptivity could be prepared, when the char from lignin carbonized at 500℃ was mixed with zinc chloride : char ratio of 2 : 1 and then the mixture was activated for 2 hours at 1000℃ in a stream of nitrogen. |
