Abstract THe foundamental experiments in the phosphorus removal from synthetic wastewater were carried out by the batch and continuous reactor which used aluminium and silver plate. In this system, the phosphrous was removed by aluminium ion generated with the electrochemical interaction(pitting corrosion) of aluminium and silver. In the batch experiments, the efficiencies of phosphorus removal increased when the surface of aluminium plate were brushed. The optimal pH value was 5 for the phosphorus removal. The phosphorus removal by aluminium ion was affected the silver plate and NaCl concentration. The efficiency of phosphorus removal increased with increasing NaCl concentration, surface area of aluminium and silver plate. The amounts of Al eluted from aluminium plate were from 7.2㎎ to 48.6㎎ in this experimental conditions, and Al/P mole ratio were from 1.68 to 11.8. The effluent PO₄-P concentration as low as 1.0㎎/L could have been obtained during the continuous experiment at HRT of 12 hrs.
