Abstract This study is concerned with investigating the current state of refrigerated warehouses of the nation in terms of regional conditions and presenting an optimal operation method which can be adopted to local conditions. To this end, the studied area was divided into two; i.e., the Central area using the weather data of Seoul where consumers are densely populated, and the South area using the weather data of Busan where refrigerated warehouse facilitycapacity exceeds over 40% of Korea. Since the temperature inside the warehouse is considerably affected by the storage temperature of the stored goods, the proposal was made for three classes of C, F, and SF based on the classification of operational features. According to storage period and in-out movement type of the stored goods, warehouses can be divided into a storage type for long-term storage and a distribution type in which daily in-out movement volume accounts for over 3% of the total. These operational characteristics were also taken into consideration in this study.
