Abstract In this study, the thermal characteristics in classrooms which use heating systems of forced convection type such as 4-way ceiling type system with cassette indoor unit, fan coil unit with floor type and radiation heating system was added for comparison, have been investigated for several case by various experimental methods. And, especially, 4-way ceiling type system has been investigated to make the best thermal environment through several case of airflow control. These results were analysed according to evaluation items such as Air Distribution Performance Index (ADPI), Predicted mean vote (PMV), Predicted Percentge of Dissatisfied (PPD). According to comparison between 4-way ceiling type and floor type fan coil unit, in vertical air temperature distribution, 4-way ceiling type is better as compared with floor type fan coil unit. and in horizontal distribution, floor type fan coil unit is better than 4-way ceiling type syatem. And results of evaluation items such as ADPI, PMV, PPD are as follows : floor type fan coil unit is better than 4-way ceiling type system in ADPI, and floor type fan coil unit is better as compared with 4-way ceiling type system in PMV, PPD.
