Abstract The noise through floor system is the biggest problem of apartment housing in Korea. The government has prepared a legal standard of the floor impact noise isolation performance for apartment housing. This paper deals with the characteristics of impact noise isolation performance of current floor system, and the difference of test results according to the test methods and impact sound sources. The results shows that current floor systems with noise absorption material or increased slab thickness is able to satisfy the light weight sound transmission level, but heavy weight sound transmission level is not easily achieved with usual methods such as noise absorption material or increasing slab thickness.
