Abstract Local cooling system is known to be effective by its smothering intensive hot environment, supplying comfort sense and utilizing energy efficiently. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of localized cooling using portable cooler on thermal comfort in hot condition. The experiment was conducted in winter. The subjects (10 young females & males) were exposed to the following conditions: air temperatures (Ta=30oC, 33oC) Relative Humidity 50%. The local cooling was conducted neck and forehead parts. The following results were obtained: The skin temperature of the head and neck parts in contact with portable cooler was affected head cooling and neck cooling. The mean skin temperature ranged from 35.2oC~35.6oC at air temperature 33oC.
