Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the bed climate and the thermo physiological responses during sleep on bed and ondol in two environmental conditions. The participants consisted of two young women and two young men. Bed climate, clothing microclimate, skin temperatures and rectal temperature were measured every five minutes during sleep. The results of this study are as follows: First, Temperature on the comforter was higher in 26oC environment than in 23oC environment during sleep. Temperature on the comforter during sleep on Ondol was higher than sleep on bed in 26oC environment (p<.01). Second, Temperature under the comforter during sleep on bed was higher than sleep on Ondol in two environments (p=.030). Vapor pressure under the comforter during sleep on bed was higher than sleep on bed. Third, Temperature on the mattress was higher 26oC environment than in 23oC environment during sleep. Forth, Mean skin temperature and rectal temperature were higher in 26oC environment than in 23oC environment during sleep (p<.01). the range of mean skin temperature was wider in 23oC than 26oC environment (p<.05). Fifth, Correlation among variable items during was as follows. Temperature under the comforter showed negative correlation with temperature under the mattress (p<.01), but with mean skin temperature showed positive correlation (p<.01). Temperature on the mattress correlated with both clothing microclimate humidity and humidity under the comforter (p<.01). Clothing microclimate temperature showed correlation with mean skin temperature and rectal temperature (p<.01).
