Abstract The objective of this study work is to propose the standard size of glare source for classifying glare sources into two groups, large and small. The experiment was conducted on the self made glare meter. The luminances of glare sources causing discomfort were measured during the source sizes were changed. the results of the experiment show that the luminance of discomfort glare is down when the source size become larger, and the ratio of the luminance of discomfort glare and the source size has the highest value when the source size is 0.03sr. Base on the results, the size 0.03sr is proposed as the standard size for classifying glare sources into large sources and small sources.
