Abstract |
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the fall and housing environmental problem, andidentify the influencing factors of the fall. Method: The subjects of this study were 61 the couple and single elderlywho enrolled in elderly senior centers in Seoul and Kyunggi Province, Korea. The instruments used for the study werethe MDS-HC (Minimum Data Set-Home Care) 2.0 Version. Result: Of the elderly sample, 27.9% experienced 1 ormore fall and 49.2% had the fear of fall. The frequency of experience of falls was more single elderly than coupleelderly. 65.6% had at least 1 housing environmental problem and 2 ones on average. The most common housingenvironmental problems (50.8%) were found in bathroom and toilet. The number of housing environmental problemswere significantly higher in elderly who experience fall than those who not experience fall (t=?2.31, p<.05). As logisticregression analysis, the influencing factors of the fall were inadequate environment of bathroom and toilet. Conclusion: As a result, it is necessary to reinforce support of single elderly and reform of housing environment by policy. Andit is important to development of pamphlet and checklist for housing environmental hazards and development of edu-cation program to prevent fall of elderly. |
