Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of body composition, insulin resistance and bloodpressure after 12 weeks multicomponent exercise. Subjects were consisted of twenty (con: 10, exe; 10) elderly womenwhose aged was over 75 yrs. The multicomponent exercise program included stretching, aerobic exercise (step exerciseand balance exercise), muscle strengthening and yoga. The exercise was performed at an intensity 40~59% of HRRduring 1~6 weeks, and 60~84% of HRR during 7~12 weeks. The program was conducted 60 minutes, 4 times a weekfor 12 weeks. We found that percentage of body fat (%BF), and abdominal fat volumes were significantly (p<.05)decreased and insulin resistance and blood pressure were significantly (p<.01) improved after multicomponent exercise. The change of visceral fat volume was positively correlated with the change of insulin concentration (r=0.861, p=0.05)and the change of systolic blood pressure (r=0.818, p=0.05) in the exercise group. These results suggested that mul-ticomponent exercise would be a positive role for insulin resistance and blood pressure in the elderly. |
