Abstract GRW (Glare Rating for Windows) formula is forwarded for evaluating discomfort glare from a large glaresource. The formula has 3 parameters, luminance of the source, size of the source and background luminance. Theexperiment was conducted on a model window to determine the exponents of the parameters. Discomfort glare fromthe model window is evaluated by 32 subjects. From the results, the exponent of source luminance is decided by 2.4,the exponent of source size is by 1 and the exponent of background luminance is by 0.1. The proposed formula isdistinct from other formulas, in that it has simple form and background luminance affects little to the degree of dis-comfort glare. It is expected that discomfort glare from real windows can be appraised by the GRW formula.
