Abstract |
The degree of discomfort glare can be expressed by physical factors such as luminance of the source, size of the source and background luminance. Criteria of discomfort glare should have a linear relationship with these physical factors. Criteria of discomfort glare proposed by Hopkinson has been used from the 1960s. In Korea, the terms of the criteria are translated into Korean for evaluating discomfort glare. Therefore applicability of Korean terms should be tested before using these terms for the subjective assessments of discomfort glare. An experiment was conducted to identify the applicability of terms. Thirty-six subjects participated in the experiment. The result shows that criteria of discomfort glare used in this study have a linear relationship with luminance of glare source. Therefore, the terms of the criteria are suitable for the evaluation of discomfort glare. Women reported discomfort glare at higher luminance than men. This means that men are more sensitive to discomfort glare than women. Discomfort glare sensation is influenced by individual difference reacting with the luminance of the glare source. |
