Abstract Interior materials for apartment housing are composed of complex chemical compounds which discharge HCHO (formaldehyde) and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). This compounds cause SHS (Sick House Syndrome) to people living in the new apartment housings. This study focuses on and examines the pollutants from various types of wallpaper, which is largely used to new apartment housing. The wallpaper was individually tested for the emission characteristics of HCHO (formaldehyde), TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) using a small-scale chamber method. Test results were evaluated differently according to the types of wallpaper, ink and plasticizer. The emission rates were classify into different sections.
