Abstract It is necessary to understand the vibration characteristic of building equipment for establishing appropriate evaluation guidelines of vibration generated from them in buildings. The purpose of this study is to propose the basic data for appropriate evaluation and design strategy of vibration from building equipment by analyzing vibration and its propagation from them. In this study, field measurement of vibration acceleration level from building equipment in mechanical facility room and bathrooms were carried out in the subjected apartment building. Vibration acceleration levels and their propagation through the structure, and coherence functions among the vibration signals were analyzed as well. As the result, the vibration acceleration levels were 81.4~91.0 dB in the measured building equipment, and their peak levels showed in the frequencies under 100 Hz. Vibration reduction of the boiler was 35 dB, that of the fan was 17.8 dB, and that of the generator was 7.5 dB in the propagating path. The coherence functions between walls and floors were over 0.5 in the frequencies under 100 Hz by the vibration propagation through walls.
