Abstract This study aimed at the performance evaluation of the green roof system. In this study, Dynamic Heat Load Simulation was accomplished by the combination of building type, 9 types of planting base, existence of roof greening (100 mm grass planting), the condition of insulation, and indoor HVAC conditions. The results are cleared at the point of indoor thermal comfort and building energy savings. At the point of the effect of summer temperature decrease, difference between before and after roof greening is maximum 10oC at the rooftop ad 2oC of ceiling. In other words, the effect of insulation of the roof greening is expected to prevent overheating of rooftop and indoor environment, to maintain more appropriate indoor temperature, and to prevent indoor thermal contamination. In the green roof applied case, the amount of the inward and outward heat flow was decreased. As a result, 7% decrease of the sum total cooling load, 3% decrease of the peak load in the summer and 20~29% decrease of the sum total heating load was verified.
