Abstract Mold growth in apartment houses has been identified as the main moisture-related cause of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problems. Thus, this paper reviews the related literature and conducts a case study to find the current status of mold problems in apartment houses and possible causes for an apartment complex. The research team investigated the size of the mold infested areas in all household units in the selected apartment complex. We analyzed the relationship between mold infestation and various physical characteristics of apartment buildings, such as stories of the units, room characteristics, number of exposed facades to the outside. As a result, we found that the household units located in the top floor are vulnerable to mold growth, especially balcony space.
