Abstract This study was to investigate the psychological and physical effect of a 12 week complex walking exercise program on 40 obese middle-aged women. After the practice of 12 weeks of complex exercise program, significant difference was found in the participants' body composition including decrease in weight, BMI, body fat, body fat percentage, percentage of abdominal fat and increase in skeletal muscle mass. second, there was significant difference in psychological well-being including increase of self-esteem, feeling of personal growth, more purpose in life, positive relations with others, self acceptance after the 12 week complex exercise program. The results did not show significant correlations with the other variables. This complex exercise program demonstrated its the positive effects between body composition and psychological well-being. However for this program with elastic band and swiss ball workout to have long-term benefits and more popularity, it was necessary to add other varieties of workouts onto the existing complex exercise program. It was also required to have more study on various exercise programs for middle aged women to discover the corelation between body composition and psychological well-being so that better exercise programs can be practised by obese middle aged women.
