Abstract The patterns of change and reduction effect of the road traffic noise by the tree belt as a noise barrier facility have been analysed using a SoundPlan computer simulation program. The comparison of the field sound level and predicted sound level was evaluated for the performance of the noise prediction model and the result showed the difference between 1.2 dB(A) and 0.5 dB(A). To evaluate the performance of the tree belt, existing tree belt, green spaces, noise barrier and etc had been excluded in the modelling. The condition of the installations of the tree belt had been set with five types with the difference of height of 5 meters each, and four types with the difference of width of 4.3 meters each. It was revealed that the effect of the road traffic noise reduction by the installation of the tree belt had been bigger by its width than by height. And the reduction effect occurs definitely at the lower part of high rising apartment but upper part's effect did not appear seriously.
