Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the customized yoga and Korean dance program on living fitness and cardiovascular disease risk factors in elderly women. The subjects of this study were consisted of 53 elderly women who were over 62 year old (Yoga group=18. Korean dance group=15, Non-exercise group=20). The yoga and Korean dance program were executed 60 minutes a day, 3 time a week for 12 weeks. This study measured living fitness (endurance, strength, flexibility, agility and balance) and cardiovascular disease risk factors (weight, % body fat, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (BP), serum lipids, cardiovascular risk factor (CRF), creatin phosphokinase (CPK). The results were as follows : The endurance, upper and low strength, low flexibility were significantly improved prior to pre exercise in yoga and Korean dance group. The weight, diastolic BP were significantly decreased prior to pre exercise in Korean dance group but not changed in yoga group. The triglyceride(TG) concentration was significantly decreased prior to pre exercise in yoga group but not changed in Korean dance group. The %body fat, BMI, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), CPK were not changed prior to pre exercise in yoga and korean dance group but not significantly decreased in non-exercise group. These results indicate that the customized yoga and Korean dance program in elderly women could have the positive effects of living fitness and cardiovascular disease.
