Title Effects of Regular Jjimjilbang(Korean Sauna) Exposure on Physiological Responses in Elderly Males and Females

Abstract Jjimjilbang is a kind of Korean style sauna with high temperature and dry humidity. This study was to investigate the effects of regular Jjimjilbang exposure with elderly physiological reactions. Twelve healthy volunteers were participated in this study. They were consisted of seven elderly females and five elderly males. Jjimjil training group took a bath in Jjimjilbang 19 times once a week (from May to November, 2005) in females and 26 times once a week (from May to December, 2006) in males. As the result, the degrees of the rectal temperature elevation have been decreased according to the exposure period. When the blood pressure between before and after exposure of Jjimjilbang were compared, the blood pressure after exposure of Jjimjilbang has been more decreased than that of before. The total sweat rates and % body fat of elderly females had reduced during the nineteen weeks. The lactate concentration in blood was get down after Jjimjilbang exposure rather than before.
